Master in Management


In a world ever so competitive, young professionals are left to fend for themselves in attempts to learn what is needed and apply what is learned.  Helping new graduates in this transition, the Master in Management offered at EBAPE/FGV is one of a kind in Brazil today. With a relatively short duration and intensive learning, students can be assured to leave with notable skills meant to set them apart in the job market. 

The Master in Management is the passport for students to reach exceptional business careers. The program provides a solid foundation in core management areas with a strong international perspective—students dive into the wonderful world of practical and theoretical knowledge. There are two possibilities:
1.     Regular Program Format: Classes and master thesis are done at EBAPE/FGV;
2.     Double Degree Program Format: Classes are done both at EBAPE/FGV and Católica-Lisbon School of Business and Economics (CLSBE) along with the master thesis.

All of this is accomplished by combining soft skills with applied learning by means of a project and a case based methodology. Central to this value proposal is the expertise of highly qualified multicultural and multidisciplinary faculty members—English here is the first language.

Having in mind what is most attractive in the Brazilian and international job market today, the program has two major value propositions:
1.    To offer an improved and customized knowledge of the main areas of business management;
2.    To confer a master’s degree while offering individual professional development services that will significantly increase the employment perspectives. 

Target Students

This program is best suited for the following candidates: 
1.    Students who are about to obtain or have obtained their undergraduate degree from any field with the last 3 years.
2.    Students must have little to no relevant work experience (3 years or less).

 Double Degree Opportunity
The Católica-Lisbon School of Business and Economics (CLSBE) and the Escola Brasileira de Administração Pública e de Empresas (FGV EBAPE), who currently have a successful cooperation in the area of student mobility, also are providing the opportunity for a Double Degree. 

The Católica-Lisbon-FGV EBAPE Double Degree Program, entirely taught in English, is open to graduate students, who spend 9 months in Lisbon (at CLSBE) and a further 9 months in Rio de Janeiro, at FGV EBAPE. The successful completion of the program will award the student with two degrees: an International Master of Science in Management, majors in Marketing or Strategy & Consulting from CATÓLICA-LISBON, and a Master´s in Management from FGV-Rio.

Unquestionably, the international immersion gained through this experience will be highly valued by recruiters and likely to increase the potential for an international career, as it will provide participants with the opportunity to acquire cultural and international exposure.
FGV/EBAPE has been internationally certified by the European Foundation for Management Development (EQUIS/EFMD) and the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) which are international entities that evaluate business schools. This accreditation is only awarded to institutions that comply with extremely stringent international teaching and research quality standards.

The school is also certified by the International Commission on Accreditation of Public Administration Education and Training (ICAPA) which is the institution in charge of accreditation for public administration training and education programs, compliant with the directives issued by the Board of the International Association of Schools and Institutes of Administration (IASIA).

A series of activities focused on preparing the students for the job market that sure will help them to feel more confident to face the competition.
The activities will be distributed throughout the progtam, promoting the development of soft skills in conjunction with the proposed theoretical learning.

Below some of the activities to be covered:
-Resume Drafting
Group Based Activities: 
- Go over the general composition of what a good resume is—structure and content;
- Illustrate the do´s and don´ts of a standard resume;
- Group critique over bad resume samples;
- Collective draft—create a fictitious resume.

Individual Based Activities: 
- Individual sessions for resume critique and joint-revision;

Cover letter/writing workshops

Group Based Activities: 
- Go over the general composition of a standard cover letter;
- Specific cover letter structuring and content; 
- Work on basic and formal writing skills necessary to every day survival—geared towards business English.

Individual Based Activities: 
- Individual sessions for cover letter critique and joint-revision.       

Drafting a LinkedIn

Group Based Activities: 
- Do´s and don’ts of LinkedIn; 
- Explore the site – how to use it;
- Group dynamic – drafting a fictitious LinkedIn (collective creation).

Interview (Talk/Simulations)

Group Based Activities: 
- Go over the dynamics of an interview—what kinds of questions are asked and what are their purposes;
- Better understanding the interview from a “disaster” perspective;
- Work on specific speaking structure (Q&As format);
- Mock group interview/dynamics (fictitious job opening);
- Interview questions and the purpose behind them.

Individual Based Activities: 
- Interview simulation—in person and via skype.
**Guest speaker: HR professionals to give a more operational/hands on tone.              


Who are we looking for?
Individuals who are about to obtain or have obtained a bachelor´s degree within the last 3 (three) years from any field and with no more than 3 (three) years of work experience.
To apply for the Master in Management program, candidates must register using the online system, pay the application fee and upload the listed documents below: 

What are the required documents? 
1.    Identification document;
2.    Passport (foreign candidates);
3.    Undergraduate diploma from an accredited university (for internationally awarded diplomas, the diplomas must be apostilled as well as with a sworn Portuguese translation);
4.    Undergraduate university transcript (for internationally awarded degrees, transcripts must be apostilled with a sworn Portuguese translation);
5.    TOEFL (90 score) or IELTS (6.5 score): 2-year validity. Students with undergraduate degrees from English speaking programs are exempt from this requirement;
6.    GMAT (3 year validity), GRE (3 year validity), ANPAD (2 year validity) or ANPEC (2 year validity) scores (no minimum score required) – highly recommended;
7.    A letter of intention (English); and
8.    An updated resumé (English).

What are the phases? 
There are 3 main phases to our selection process. They are as follow:
1.    Document analysis;
2.    Face to face interviews (for students outside of Rio de Janeiro, interviews can be arranged to be done via Skype)
3.    Results
